There are some moments that ignite pure motivation which makes you confidently believe that you can achieve anything.
Often times these moments come from a quote, a talk you attended, or an interview of someone you’ve read. Whatever the source it’s imperative to harness these moments of motivations so you don’t lose it. Realizing that these motivations exist will help you apply it to your life by taking action.
Personally, I’ve been in many situations where I attended a talk and at the end felt extremely inspired and motivated. But this high motivational feeling doesn’t stay around for long because you can quickly get distracted from the normality of life. Soon the high motivational state you were in subsides and you may never be able to reignite that feeling. This scenario has definitely happened to me in the past where I’ve had multiple things looming on my mind and that high energy motivational state goes away.
Luckily, I’ve figured out how to remedy this problem and capture these moments of high motivation to reignite that feeling again when you want to act on it.
Here’s how I capture moments of motivation and preserve them for later:
1. Realize Moments of Motivation
Recognizing these moments of inspiration allows you to act on this bolt of motivation to “do something” about it yourself.
2. Capture Moments of Motivation
I often want to record what made me feel motivated. If I attended a talk and recognize that I’m really inspired I’ll quickly open up the Evernote app on my phone and jot down thoughts about the talk and what it was about. Often times there are quotes or bits of information that contribute to motivation and I make it a point to write them down in order to refer to them later.
3. Act on Moments of Motivation
If I’m in a place where inspiration hits after seeing a talk or meeting someone new I’ll quickly go to coffee shop and start writing my thoughts down in longer form text in Evernote. Usually, there’s a burst of motivation that allows me to write down my thoughts in a full page like a firehose. Often times this comes in the form of a blog post or an idea for me but this could be anything (a drawing, a blog post, an idea, etc).
The main point here is to channel motivation from the source and let that fuel your actions in whatever form that is natural for you.
