Disclaimer: OfficeSpace isn’t a client of Bottega8. This post was inspired when I came across OfficeSpace’s website while I was browsing on my mobile phone.
There’s a lot going well for OfficeSpace. The company’s service is tackling a huge problem in the commercial real estate space by bringing the industry to the modern era. OfficeSpace’s mission is to allow people to easily find office space.
There is one area where I believe they could do better and increase engagement and sales– their mobile website. Mobile is becoming so prevalent that 70% of mobile searches lead to online action within an hour according to Convince & Convert. It’s especially important for OfficeSpace.com because many people browse on the go while checking out spaces. So, a better mobile site can capture this intent and fuel growth.
Identifying Common Customer Scenarios
Many people search on mobile and will land on officespace.com. Some likely scenarios are:
- Someone on the go, searching for real estate and viewing open houses for office space.
- A broker sending a list via text message or email to a client while in the field.
It’s here when your mobile web experience becomes critical because you’re capturing a new potential customer at the highest level of intent. If they have an experience that is memorable and valuable they’ll want to keep coming back (and even tell their friends about it).
But today, that’s not the case for customers who visit OfficeSpace’s website on their mobile device.
Here’s what they see:
This current experience doesn’t encourage browsing and saving properties that an individual finds appealing to them. OfficeSpace’s service has a wealth of information that is valuable for people looking for commercial real estate but isn’t structured well based upon the device they’re consuming on.
In Summary
Research done by Google says that “75% of users prefer a mobile-friendly site, 96% of consumers say they’ve encountered sites that were clearly not designed for mobile devices.” That’s a huge potential for companies like OfficeSpace to capitalize on and bring experiences to mobile that will benefit their customers.
In order to better capture potential customers from mobile and tablet devices we suggest that a responsive site would deliver on these goals. A responsive site will allow you to design for mobile and tablet devices. With that being said, it’s important to keep in mind the implications of how your customers interact with your site on each of these devices and let these findings influence the design.
